The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Age of Heroes

This is the long-awaited continuation to the first Heroic Legend of Arislan series. Why it took so long to release these episodes is beyond me. If you're the observant type, you may notice something different regarding the title of this anime. While the original series was entitled The Heroic Legend of Arislan, this anime is titled The Heroic Legend of Arslan. Notice the difference? "Arislan" is now spelt "Arslan". All of the main characters have had their names changed, to reflect the original spellings. There is a nice blurb at the beginning of this video which details the changes. A plot summary is also provided. Essentially, whatever your feelings were towards the original series, they'll probably remain unchanged for this one. The story picks up right where the previous series left off and follows the exact same formula. Having amassed a large army, as well as acquired powerful allies, Prince Arslan must now lead his soldiers to reclaim his lost kingdom. Anyone who was disappointed by Gieve's leaving from the last series, will be happy to know that the merry minstrel makes a return appearance (although now he is known as Guibu). Unfortunately, all of the problems I had with the first series are still present here. Some events seem disjointed and out of place. For example, I'm still trying to figure out why one scene involving Silvermask was in there, since it went nowhere. The "ending" was very open and didn't resolve nearly enough issues and conflicts. I felt exactly the same after watching these two episodes as I did after watching the first four, which is to say, somewhat disappointed. If you enjoyed the first four parts of this epic tale, then you'll want to watch these two episodes. Anyone else should give it a pass. The Verdict: * * * (average)
